Vanakkam! Inikki namma kitchen-la oru super traditional South Indian sweet pannaporom..Moong Dal Payasam, also known as, Paruppu Payasam. Namma roast panniradhu golden moong dal, soft-a cook panni, jaggery-oda sweetness mix panni, creamy coconut milk la blend pannuvom. And final touch-la, ghee-la roast pannina cashew-um raisins-um add pannitu… ahh, aroma full-a house la spread aagum! Easy-a irukum and tasty-a irukum.

Moong Dal Payasam

Ingredients Quantity
Pasipayaru(Moong Dal) 200gms
Jaggery 300gms
Cardamom powder 1/2t.s
Cashew 6no's
Dry Grapes 10no's
Coconut milk(Fresh milk) 150ml
Chopped Coconut 50gms
Ghee 25ml

Tutorial

Steps

  1. Dry roast the moong dal in a pan till it turns golden and gives a nice aroma.
  2. Add water and pressure cook it for 3 to 4 whistles until soft.
  3. Mash the dal slightly and keep it aside.
  4. In a pan, melt jaggery with a little water. Strain it to remove impurities.
  5. Add the jaggery syrup to the cooked dal and simmer for 5 to 7 minutes
  6. Pour in the thick coconut milk and mix well. Don't boil after adding coconut milk, just heat slightly.
  7. Add cardamom powder.
  8. In a small pan, heat ghee and fry cashews and raisins till golden. Add to the payasam.
